Background

    AMER (ABRAmalaysia)

Way back in the year 2000, Malaysian researchers in the Environment-Behaviour (Environmental Psychology) field in Malaysia seemed to work in ‘silos’. There was a need to create a database amongst those researchers for mutual benefit. Hence, the main purpose for the establishment of AMER. It was officially launched during the Opening Ceremony of 1nCEBS on 14th November 2009, with the Formative Meeting held in the evening. A Pro-tem Committee was initially formed in 2010 for the registration process with the Registrar of Societies (ROS), Malaysia. However, due to a communications breakdown between ROS and AMER in 2011, the registration was turned down. A fresh registration process was then pursued in early January 2012 with the new Pro-temp Committee, Ultimately, AMER was officially registered with the Registrar of Societies (ROS), Malaysia on 27th January 2012. The AMER Constitution can be downloaded here.

    ABRA

Upon tremendous responses also shown by non-Malaysians studying in Malaysian universities, who actively participated in the conferences held since 2009, the formation of ABRA, an international organisation was considered necessary and timely.
The official Formative Meeting of ABRA was held in conjunction with AicE-Bs 2010 Kuching, on the 8th December 2010. The main agenda for the meeting was to introduce about ABRA and its main objectives. ABRA was officially registered with ROS on 20th October 2014, with AMER being the permanent secretariat. The ABRA Constitution (rev, Jun 2020) can be downloaded here.
